St. Teresa’s Academy names Nate Riley as head softball coach
In April, St. Teresa’s Academy hired Nate Riley to head the Stars softball program. Riley has more than 12 years of coaching experience spanning multiple sports and age groups. He took over the Teamwork Sports/Waldo Thunder softball program in 2019 and has spent much of that time building softball in the area. Over the last three years, the program has grown in overall numbers and advanced from recreation-based play to a competitive tournament and premier team. Softball is ingrained in Riley’s family, as his uncle recently was named the 2021 Softball National High School Coach of the Year.
“We couldn’t be more excited to have Coach Riley join our staff,” said Athletic Director Ty Abney. “During the interview process, we were looking for a high-energy, passionate and knowledgeable individual who would connect well with our student-athletes. From the first time we spoke, Coach conveyed he was the right person for the job. I’m looking forward to watching him and his staff continue to build our softball program and provide our kids with a great experience.”
“I’m excited to bring enthusiasm and excitement to STA softball and help develop not only good ball players, but also great people,” Riley said. “I can’t wait to get started with the team this summer. I’m beyond excited to be a part of the STA family.”
Riley graduated from Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park, Kansas, in 2001, and from Iowa State University in 2006. He and his wife Tahlia have two daughters who attend St. Elizabeth School.
