“It is not uncommon for faith to be viewed as the opposite of reason, especially as our scientific knowledge has grown. However, overall the Catholic tradition has a long history of strong compatibilism–i.e., that faith and reason can work together without being in conflict or contradicting each other. Science is good. Reason is good. Faith is good. They all complement one another and a Catholic education enables students to experience that synthesis in a way that public schools cannot while other private schools might be inclined to privilege one over the other. Combined with the CSJ love of the dear neighbor, Catholic education can be an environment that welcomes students of a variety of faith backgrounds so that every student can grow intellectually and spiritually.”
