STA Senior Selected for State Academic Honor

March 21, 2023

STA senior Teresa E. has been named a 2023 Missouri Scholars 100 awardee. Missouri Scholars 100 is a statewide program that honors 100 of the state’s top academic students from the graduating class of 2023.

Missouri Scholars 100 is sponsored by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals. Schools from across the state nominated candidates for this prestigious recognition. Recipients are selected based on their grade point averages and ACT or SAT scores. Student nominees first had to meet the criteria of an “Academic Decathlon,” which included 10 activities designed to affirm the student’s academic strength. Requirements for consideration include a GPA of 3.75 or higher; a minimum ACT score of 29 or a minimum SAT score of 1280; a ranking in the upper 10 percent of their class; and participation in high-level courses in mathematics, science, English and a foreign language. The student also must have excellent attendance, be an exemplary school citizen, and be involved in the school’s activity programs.

Barbara McCormick, STA Principal for Academic Affairs, said, “I am exceptionally proud of Teresa and all she has accomplished academically and as a student leader.  She exemplifies the spirit of academic excellence at the Academy.”

Teresa is active in numerous student groups at STA including G.I.V.E. (Get Involved. Value Everyone.), which helps students recognize the importance of helping the dear neighbor and create a lifelong love of giving back. She also is a strong advocate for animals and has worked with local rescue groups to find homes for animals through community adoption events.

Teresa and other Missouri Scholars 100 awardees will be recognized at a luncheon in Columbia, Missouri, in late April.
