STA Recognized for Role in Invention Convention

April 4, 2023

Today, Mary Montag, STA science teacher, accepted an award on behalf of STA from the Linda Hall Library of Science, Engineering and Technology for the Academy’s role in the creation of the Kansas City Invention Convention.

Matt Reeves, Linda Hall Library’s Public Programs Manager, presented the award, stating, “KCIC would not have been possible without Kansas City’s vibrant community of innovative educators and dedicated student inventors. We had a vision and a narrative. Your participation made that vision a reality.

Montag has worked with students since the launch of the Invention Convention to engage students with the convention as they identify, design and pitch their inventions.

“Mary’s role in the Invention Convention and her leadership in the STA STEM/STEAM program is truly inspiring,” said STA President Dr. Siabhan May-Washington. “This kind of leadership is what differentiates our curriculum and prepares our students to become leaders as they enter fields historically dominated by men.”

Reeves continued, “Throughout the competition, we were awed by the solutions that your student inventors made manifest. We look forward to standing shoulder to shoulder with the STEM business community, your institution, and your students as we build a future worth inventing.”
