Passing of the Legacy tradition lives on
August 16, 2022
As faculty, staff, students and special guests took their seats in Goppert Gymnasium on this gray, overcast day, a student slowly rang a century-old bell signaling the impending Passing of the Legacy ceremony. This STA tradition signifies the special time when seniors introduce new students to the St. Teresa’s Academy sisterhood, sharing words of wisdom and encouragement with freshmen and transfer students.
After an opening prayer led by Emma Kate Callahan, Director of Campus Ministry, President Siabhan May-Washington kicked off the ceremony with a warm welcome to new and returning students. Senior Class President Maggie Reintjes then shared her thoughts on what makes the STA sisterhood special, and urged students to make the most of their time at STA.
The ceremony concluded with seniors placing medals engraved with St. Teresa of Avila around the necks of their new sisters, officially welcoming them to the Academy.
