The Stars Air on Cable TV
January 26, 2023
The success of STA’s Broadcasting and Production Course I course is impressive. In a few short days, the class, which includes freshmen thru seniors, will broadcast a 30-minute feature segment on Spectrum Cable. STA currently is the only high school in the Kansas City area with a cable television presence.
When the class formed last fall, the students immediately began airing daily live broadcasts under the moniker Teresa Broadcasting Company to the STA campus community of approximately 700 people. Seeing its initial successes – which included a regional Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) award – the class instructors presented this semester’s students with a challenging opportunity: create a 30-minute TV special that would be shown on cable TV and available to a broader audience. The students eagerly started planning and production, and will be showing their work – a final project for the class – Saturday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m. on Spectrum Channel 4.
STA sophomore Amelia S. says, “I was super intrigued when the teachers told us we would be creating a segment to be on cable TV for our final. I was nervous because I realized it was going to be a lot of work, but excited that we were going to be able to be create something that was going to be out in the public. Overall, it was a very fun experience that took a lot of work but our final product turned out great!”
The plan for the 2023- 2024 school year is to add a Broadcasting and Production II course for students who are serious about going into the broadcasting field. The course will be taught by broadcast industry expert Aubrey Williams who is one of three collaborating instructors for the Broadcasting and Production I course. The advanced course will consist of more in-depth training in the broadcasting and film industry and create a monthly 30-minute TV segment.
Businesses that are interested in advertising on the broadcast can contact Erinn Brown, STA Development Director, for details.
