Theology Courses

This year-long course surveys the Old and New Testaments of the Bible, exploring historical context, themes, and audiences. It emphasizes critical reading of scriptures, studies Jesus from Gospel and historical views, and introduces Catholic life at STA, including the tradition of Saint Teresa of Avila and the Sisters of St. Joseph’s mission.

This course examines the historical concept of God and development of the Catholic Church. Tracing these ideas through foundation, Gospel writings, and Vatican II doctrine, with a focus on living out the sacramental life. Students will develop critical reading and articulation skills for engaging with theological, philosophical, and historical texts.

This year-long course will expose students to the Catholic Church’s large body of teachings which address social justice. Each student will choose a social issue of concern and analyze it in terms of all that was learned. The junior community service component will be incorporated into this course.

World Faiths introduces students to six world religions. Your Faith is a semester recap of theology focusing on preparing students to carry their faith into the future. Students in both courses will be motivated to serve the dear neighbor without distinction in line with our founding Sisters of St. Joseph’s mission.

This course introduces fourteen major world religions plus new and/or nontraditional religious movements. It explores their history, beliefs, practices, and divisions. Using role-play game pedagogy, students have some flexible grading options to boost engagement, though role-playing is optional and not required for grades.  College Religions may be taken for dual credit.
