STA welcomes Avila University president to campus

November 3, 2022
This morning, James Burkee, Ph.D., newly installed president of Avila University, visited STA to take in the sites of the original Avila College (known at the time as St. Teresa’s College located in present-day Donnelly Hall).
Dr. Burkee and STA President Dr. Siabhan May-Washington discussed their roles as academic leaders and plans to strengthen their relationship as CSJ school representatives.
Dr. Burkee became president of Avila on July 1, 2022, succeeding Ronald Slepitza, Ph.D., CSJA, and member of the St. Teresa’s Academy Board of Directors. Dr. Burkee has worked in higher education for 25 years, except for a two-year hiatus in 2011 to serve as a managing partner and Chief Operating Officer of his family’s business. In 2013, he returned to academia and, in 2019, joined Sisters of Charity-run Mount Saint Vincent College in the Bronx, New York, where he served as Vice President for Strategic Initiatives until joining Avila.
