At St. Teresa’s Academy, education means more than just academic readiness; it involves educating the whole young woman – the essential nurturing of the body, mind and spirit.
Health and Wellness Mission
St. Teresa’s Academy seeks to strengthen the lives of students by identifying and reducing the health barriers to learning, decreasing absenteeism, and promoting student health and safety.
Health and Wellness Goal
St. Teresa’s Academy, through its various health and wellness initiatives, promotes the health and safety of students and faculty by helping them acquire health knowledge and by responding directly to student and faculty health needs.
A registered nurse is available on campus to assist students with health and wellness related needs and issues.
Numerous employees are trained by certified health care professionals in first aid, CPR, and AED use. In providing first aid, an employee shall be held harmless and immune from liability, if proper procedure is followed. Any qualified employee shall be held harmless and immune from any civil liability for administering medication or medical services in good faith and according to standard medical practices.

Below are a few of the campus-based initiatives supporting STA students’ health and well-being.
Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOCSA) – This presentation educates students on ways to identify and prevent sexual violence in our community.
Registered Nurse – An RN is available every day to assist students with health- and wellness- related needs and issues.
Small Group Counseling– STA has partnered with outside therapists to bring students new and fun group ideas to help manage stressors and other events in their lives. This is a great way to take advantage of counseling services alongside other students who may be experiencing similar challenges. All students are asked to complete a group counseling survey each year to assess needs and develop appropriate programming for the STA community.
Sources of Strength (SOS) – Sources of Strength is a strengths-based, comprehensive wellness program that focuses on suicide prevention and other issues such as substance abuse and violence. The program is based on a relational connections model that uses teams of peer/student leaders and adult advisors to change peer social norms about seeking help, and encourages students to individually assess and develop strengths in their life.
Think First – This program/presentation educates students on education, research and advocacy targeted at preventing brain, spinal cord and other traumatic injuries.
Wellness Committee– A subcommittee of the STA Board of Directors, the Wellness Committee brings awareness of better physical health to all students through education, counseling and innovative ways of exercise.
Students interested in health and wellness initiatives can participate in the following clubs or extracurriculars. See a full list of clubs and extracurriculars.
SADD Club (Students Against Destructive Decisions) – This club organizes projects to raise awareness of and improve knowledge and attitudes about the serious dangers of drunk driving and other destructive decisions.
Healthy Living Club – This is a club for students who want to incorporate healthy living into their daily lives. During the year, the club discusses ideas for healthy eating habits, practices mindfulness and do other fitness activities which may include yoga, dance, cardio, walking, etc. It is a place for students to release stress and gather tools to maintain a healthy lifestyle. New ideas and suggestions about how to keep a healthy lifestyle are always welcome!
Self-Care Club – This club club encourages students to engage in activities and habits that promote mental, spiritual, emotional and physical health. Members enjoy activities that are positive and focused on taking care of their whole selves to be their best selves! Activities have previously included Just Dance, yoga, gift swaps and more.
