This course provides authentic experience to students who want to apply for a staff position on the yearbook or newspaper staff. Semesters are divided into halves where students will gain experience in writing, reporting and ethics and then the Adobe Creative Cloud Software. This course is best for those who enjoyed English and Language Arts courses in middle school.
Concert Choir
Prerequisites: None

Concert Choir is a non-auditioned choir for freshmen. There is no experience required and many students have never sung in a choir before. Students will explore a wide variety of genres, languages and musical styles increasing in difficulty throughout the year. Instruction will focus on essential skills including vocal tone, range, historical context, musical literacy, and expressive skills. Concert Choir will perform in all concerts at STA and in State MSHSAA festivals.
Acting I

This intro level course will focus on the basics of acting technique. Through fun activities and scene work, students will learn basic acting terminology, improvisational skills, and the importance of body and breath control. Students will be expected to attend one theatrical production during the course of the semester.
Drawing I

This course will introduce artists to the elements of art and principles of design through the development of the student’s powers of observation. Artistic abilities will grow as we study contour lines, linear perspective, composition, and techniques of shading with lead and charcoal pencil, ink, conté and pastels. This course is a prerequisite for Drawing II, Painting, and Graphic Design.
Theatrical Design & Makerspace Projects

This course will focus on the non-performance aspects of theatre. Students will learn the basics of design by creating their own set, costume and makeup designs. All students will be trained and will utilize the tools and equipment in the Makerspace. Students will be expected to attend one theatrical production during the course of the semester.
Ceramics I

This course is an introduction to ceramics that develops an understanding of form, function, craftsmanship, and the creative thought process. The class will explore hand building and wheel throwing techniques, with an emphasis on both sculptural and functional three-dimensional form. Students are encouraged to develop their own ideas and concepts. An idea involves not only the physical but also personal interactions with that idea.
Computer Science Discoveries
Prerequisites: None
Length of Course: One semester
Credit: One half credit
Students will learn to write, develop, and process programs using the Python programming language, which is used for many applications such as Raspberry Pi programming and data processing. Topics for the course include basic programming skills, conditionals, loops, functions, and drawing output to the screen.
Broadcasting & Production

The goal of this course is to present an overview of the broadcast industry with plenty of hands-on projects. Students should gain confidence and understanding in a variety of communication situations behind the scenes or in front of the camera. Students will learn pre-production, production, and post-production techniques and protocol through a variety of technology tools. Storytelling, creating writing, stage and graphic design, lighting, public speaking, music production and much more are infused into this class to promote and produce the live Teresa Broadcasting Company daily morning show!
Public Speaking & Communication

This course is designed to improve verbal and non-verbal communication skills while overcoming the anxiety that is often evident when speaking in public. Through presentations, projects and class discussions, students will learn the soft skills needed to be successful in school and the workplace in a relaxed and non-threatening environment. Students will learn the importance of developing their own voice (both figuratively and literally) and will become more confident speakers, stronger writers and understand the role technology and media play in modern communication.
