The 1984–1985 St. Teresa’s Academy basketball has been named the 2026 Athletic Hall of Fame honoree. The Stars made history as the first STA basketball team to advance to the Missouri state tournament. With a 29–1 record, the team finished third at state, marking a defining moment in STA athletic history.

Led by Head Coach Jim McMurray and Assistant Coach Mike Egner, the team brought together talented players from four graduating classes who quickly became a formidable group on the court. The team included Kelly (Frazier, ‘85) Malon, Michaela (Walsh, ‘85) Wilson, Felicia Braddy (’86), Annette Bumpus-Page (’86), Paula (Sprenger, ‘86) Huerter, Sue (Pack, ‘87) Fanning (’87), Maryann Mitts (’87), Cynthia (Farrington, ‘87) Steibel and Nicole Williams (’88).

Their 29-1 season was impressive by any measure, and their state tournament appearance made the year particularly historic. By becoming the first STA basketball team to reach the state tournament, these Stars opened the door for the teams that would follow and showed what STA athletes could accomplish with talent, determination and a shared commitment to one another.

More than 40 years later, the accomplishments of the 1984–1985 team remain an important part of STA athletic history. Their success helped establish a tradition of competitive excellence and gave future generations of Stars a standard to pursue.

STA is proud to honor the 1984–1985 basketball team as part of the 2026 Athletic Hall of Fame and to celebrate the players whose historic season helped shape the future of STA athletics.

The event will feature guest speaker Carol Stiff, a nationally recognized sports executive whose 31-year career at ESPN helped shape the growth of women’s sports, particularly women’s basketball. She managed ESPN’s WNBA property from its launch in 1996 through 2021 and played a key role in the network’s coverage of women’s collegiate sports, including the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. Her contributions have earned numerous honors, including induction into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame and the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame’s John Bunn Award in 2021, and the 2025 Sports Business Journal Champion award. Since retiring from ESPN, Stiff has continued to advance women’s sports through consulting, board service and media projects, including as an executive producer of Dream On and 37 Words.

The STA community is invited to join us in celebrating the 2026 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees on Friday, October 9, at 1:55 p.m. in Goppert Gymnasium. The afternoon will include a special ceremony recognizing their achievements and celebrating their contributions to STA athletics.
