Pilgrimage Trip to Italy June 2019
STA students and parents put on their pilgrim shoes in Italy this summer to embark on a Catholic tradition unlike any other. Experiential Education Coordinator Kelly Fast and the Director of Faith Formation at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Michael Sanem explored the intersection of faith, family, culture, and community in Rome, Florence, Siena, and Cinque Terre. In addition to visiting the most important Catholic and cultural sites in Rome and Florence, the pilgrimage centered on the Palio di Siena, the 800-year-old horse race run through the city center in honor of the Blessed Mother, whose intercession is credited with saving the city. Students became immersed in the Catholic culture and Contrade, or neighborhoods, of Siena, with behind the scenes tours, dinners with the local neighborhoods, and the exhilarating horse race as its finale.
