Zoe Butler Awarded MIPA Student Journalist of the Year

The Missouri Interscholastic Press Association (MIPA) has selected Zoe Butler, a senior at St. Teresa’s Academy, as the 2018 MIPA Student Journalist of the Year. Zoe was chosen after a comprehensive review of applications and portfolios by the MIPA judge.

Zoe is the co-editor-in-chief of Dart and DartNewsOnline, STA’s nationally award-winning student-run newspaper and online news site. Brad Lewis, STA’s publication adviser, stated, “Zoe was chosen from dozens of applicants based on her journalistic skills in writing, editing, videography, photojournalism, and leadership. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this honor.”

MIPA is a state organization working in association with the Missouri School of Journalism; Journalism Educators Association, JEA; and the National Scholastic Press Association, NSPA, for advisers in the state of Missouri. The goal of MIPA’s state contest is to honor the work of Missouri’s student journalists and to provide professional critiques and services to support and enhance their education in the area of journalism. The contest is the longest running Student Journalist of the Year contest in the state, starting 49 years ago, and is also the only one with a cash award.

Zoe will be recognized at the annual MIPA Journalism Day scheduled for Wednesday, March 28, in Jesse Hall on the University of Missouri Columbia campus.
