Students and STEAM

STA students are surging forward with opportunities in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) this academic year. Take a look at some of their amazing accomplishments:

  • Seventeen STA students competed in the MECA Challenge at the Linda Hall Library on the UMKC campus. The MECA "Most Entrepreneurial Community in America" Challenge, a program of the Kansas City Startup Foundation, is a one-day innovation competition that pushes students to build an entrepreneurial mindset, collaborate with Kansas City professionals and innovators, and create solutions for real-world problems.
  • A group of STA seniors were welcomed by MU School of Engineering to learn more about STEAM careers from the perspective of female students and professors. STA students visited robotics, food science, and biomedical research labs and talked to the dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Elizabeth Loboa, about the numerous opportunities available to future engineering majors.
  • Courtney Talken, STA senior, was selected to the Missouri All-State Choir. Only juniors and seniors are allowed to audition for the nationally recognized honor choir and this is Courtney's second year for this honor. She is only one of six girls selected for the choir (from a field of 200) through a rigorous audition process.
