St. Teresa’s Academy announced the hiring of Mike Higgins, as the fifth head coach in the program's 22-year history.
Mike Higgins has served as the Director of Championships for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) since 2015. Higgins and his team produce 28 national championships each year. Prior to the NAIA Higgins was the Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Portland Beavers, Triple-A baseball affiliate of the San Diego Padres. While in Oregon, Higgins coached high school softball at West Linn High School and Canby High School in the Portland Metro area. Higgins has also coached competitive summer club level teams at the 16-Gold and 18-Gold level, coaching the Northwest Batbusters and the Northwest Sidewinders. During his coaching career, Mike has coached 55 players who have gone on to play at the college level. He is married and has four daughters and the Higgins family lives in Parkville, Missouri.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to lead the St. Teresa’s softball program. It’s an honor to follow coach Abney and to continue building the sport,” Higgins said.
“We’re so excited to have Coach Higgins join the STA staff,” Athletic Director, Ty Abney said. “After interviewing several candidates for the position, Coach’s passion for not only the game, and the most important piece: student-athletes and helping them reach their goals, made for an easy decision. His coaching experience and background working in athletics should make for an easy transition for his staff. I’m confident he will do a great job with our student-athletes and fit right into our coaching staff.”
