Why did you choose to attend St. Teresa's Academy?
I chose to attend St. Teresa's Academy because of the wonderful community, the many opportunities provided, and the beautiful campus. When I visited St. Teresa's for the first time, I was amazed by how happy and welcoming people were. In every class, people were always finding the joy and laughter in the small things. With the resources and opportunities provided, every person seemed to be able to pursue their interests and express who they were. To me, it seemed that the community accepted everyone for who they were, which allows individuals to be confident in themselves. I wanted to experience that joy and confidence. Lastly, I loved the outdoor campus. It is not only a beautiful campus, but it is also reminiscent of a college campus.

What has been your favorite class at STA?
My favorite class as STA would probably have to be Spanish. The STA Modern & Classical Languages department has really helped me develop interest in learning Spanish. Senora Lopez caught my attention from the beginning. She did a very good job of making sure everyone understood grammar and pronunciation. She was patient and the enthusiasm in her voice allowed me to stay focused. The class contained interactive activities that allowed students to have fun and be social. While my parents may argue that I am not the best at speaking Spanish, I think that the foundation Senora Lopez set for me will take me far.

What is your favorite part of the STA community?
One thing that I value about the STA community is how supportive they are. If you ask for help, faculty, staff, and students will be at your side. Whether you are struggling in a class or you are having trouble with your laptop, there will always be someone willing to help you thrive. In addition, if you want to try something new, the STA community will be right there with you cheering you on. They want to see you succeed. Lastly, if you or your family is suffering, the STA community will be at your door with flowers and chocolates to let you know that they are there for you. The supportive STA community provides an environment for girls to figure out who they are and what they want to do.

What has been your most memorable experience at STA?
So far, my most memorable experience at STA has been STA Relay for Life. Relay for Life is a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society and cancer research. Since STA's first year of Relay for Life was my freshman year, nobody knew what to expect. To be completely honest, I wasn't super thrilled about staying up all night and then attending lacrosse practice the next morning. However, it turned out to be a super fun-packed and inspiring night. From the Luminary Ceremony, to the fashion show, to hanging out with friends, Relay for Life was one for the books.

Looking back at your year(s) at STA, what would you tell yourself on the first day of school?
I would tell myself to not worry about what other people think and do everything that makes you happy. At the beginning of freshman year, I kind of stuck with the pack and made the same decisions as everyone else. I missed certain opportunities because I was scared to do things alone. But what I didn't realize is that I wouldn't be alone at all. When I finally got out of my comfort zone, I had so much fun, met so many cool people, and created so many memories that I will hold onto forever. Now, I know to try and make an effort to participate in every opportunity that comes my way. Quarantine made me realize that high school doesn't last forever, it is critical to not waste a moment.

What advice would you give to prospective students who are considering STA?
STA, for me, has been the best decision I could have made. At STA, I have found a community, friends, and resources that will support me in becoming a confident young woman. If you are looking for a school that will provide you the opportunities to succeed, STA is your school!

What is the one thing you have learned most about yourself? How has STA helped you discover that?
From the year I have been at STA, I have learned many things about myself, including that I must truly embrace who I am as a person. However, the most game-changing thing I learned about myself at STA so far is that most of my stress comes from my lack of time management. I discovered this when I realized some of my classmates were doing the same amount of work that I was, yet they weren't as anxious as me. I asked people how they stayed on top of everything while still having time for other activities. Through many conversations, I found a way to manage my time better. While my time management is still not the best, teachers and classmates have provided ways for me to use my time wisely, and eventually, I'll be doing assignments the day they were assigned!
