Do you have any words of inspiration or encouragement for young girls interested in a STEAM career?
In a STEAM-related field, you may be one of the only or the only women in many of your college classes, on your jobs, and in your networks. Don’t be intimidated by male domination in these fields. You are worthy, you belong there, and your representation matters. Don’t waste your seat at the table by being afraid to shine.
Why did you decide to pursue a career in a STEAM field?
I was an accounting major in college, but I knew very little about the brokerage and financial industry. I fell in love with the work in an entry level role as a portfolio accountant. A mentor suggested I sit for the FINRA exam to become a licensed financial advisor, and my career progressed from there. Many women in my life have embraced, mentored and advocated for me. I believe finding mentorship is important. Also, reading about the paths of other women can assist you on your journey. I have watched Thasunda Brown Duckett, CEO of Chase Consumer Banking at JP Morgan Chase, from afar. I admire how far she has come in the industry.
What has been the best part of your job?
My favorite part is getting to travel. I’ve been able to travel throughout most of the U.S. in the various roles I have held.
