KAYLA, Class of 2021
Elementary/Middle School: Hope Lutheran School
Why did you choose to attend St. Teresa's Academy?
I never thought I’d end up at an all-girls Catholic school, but when I shadowed, I knew I belonged at STA. Everyone was inclusive, friendly, and very upbeat. When you come to STA, you become part of a sisterhood that you never knew you needed. I have found some of my closest friends and have had loads of memories that I will forever carry with me. Not only is the vibe incredible, the curriculum pushes you to be the best in all aspects of your life.
What has been your favorite class at STA?
Anatomy I was my favorite class at STA. My teacher was very helpful and amazing at her job. She made a hard class super easy and enjoyable.
What is your favorite part of the STA community?
I love how everyone is always willing to help. You can ask anyone for directions during your first week and I guarantee you will be greeted with the most helpful and loving response. When you’re out of money on your Bistro (lunch) card, someone will most likely offer to buy your lunch without hesitation. The people are always ready to help because that’s what we do here. Love the dear neighbor.
What has been your most memorable experience at STA?
I was part of the 2018 volleyball team’s road to state, where we placed third. That journey is one I will never forget. Our seniors threw a “wedding” at the hotel where we all dressed in the most odd attire for the event. It was truly hilarious and a story I will forever tell everyone.
Looking back at your year(s) at STA, what would you tell yourself on the first day of school?
Looking back, I would tell myself to be more outgoing and talk to more people. I didn’t get very social until junior year, and that’s when I found my best friends. I had to step out of my comfort zone and reach out to new people to find myself and discover where I belonged.
What advice would you give to prospective students who are considering STA?
I’d advise them to be bold. Try everything, because even if you fail, you still gained something from the experience. You can’t really go wrong with attempting more.
What is the one thing you have learned most about yourself? How has STA helped you discover that?
I’ve learned that my thoughts and opinions are important. I use my voice in the classroom, at home, during sports, and just in my daily life now, more than I did before attending STA. STA shows you how crucial your voice can be, and I’m so glad I learned that from this school.
