Students, faculty, and staff at St. Teresa’s Academy participate in a wide variety of educational events, training, and hands-on experiences to continue to support STA’s mission to “love the dear neighbor without distinction.” 

National Association of Independent Schools People of Color Conference

In December 2019, STA President Dr. Siabhan May-Washington, STA Principal for Student Affairs Dr. Liz Baker, Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator Kelly McKee, and Director of Human Resources Patty Thompson attended the National Association of Independent Schools People of Color Conference in Seattle, Washington. While at the conference, Dr. May-Washington met STA alumna, Doreen Johnson ('89). Doreen is the Middle School Dean of Studies at Ransom Everglades School in Miami, Florida. Doreen and Dr. May-Washington were recognized in front of a crowd of 7,500 attendees as Heads of Independent Schools and people of color.

Racial Equity and Inclusion (REI) Workshop

Brianna Walker, STA’s Director of Equity Outreach and Inclusive Education, and Kelly McKee, STA’s Equity Outreach Coordinator, (pictured above) participated in an REI Workshop in July of 2019. The workshop consisted of a two-day look into the history of race in America and how educators, human resources professionals, marketers, etc. can join together to continue to educate themselves and their peers, becoming allies in the fight against injustice, hate, and inequality.
