DARCIE, Class of 2021
Elementary/Middle School: Monticello Trails Middle School
Activities/Interests: Theatre, Music, Songwriting, Dance

Why did you choose to attend St. Teresa's Academy?
We moved over by STA when I was in seventh grade. As soon as we moved, we already had the idea of going to STA because the education is amazing. I shadowed and I immediately felt included, even though I wasn't enrolled yet. The community is close and connected, which is why I chose STA.

What has been your favorite class at STA?
Definitely Dr. Himes's or Mr. Tonnies’s English class. I loved their enthusiasm and passion for what they taught, which kept me engaged and excited to learn. They were so funny, and I just loved getting to be part of their class.

What is your favorite part of the STA community?
I love that we are able to build each other up and support each other no matter what. Also, Dr. May-Wash, President of STA, has constantly shown great leadership in teaching and keeping our community together during COVID.

What has been your most memorable experience at STA?
I've loved participating in choir so much because Mr. Perry is a lot of fun to be around and he is such a great teacher! I've also loved doing the plays and musicals at STA because the theatre community has been wonderful during my four years.

Looking back at your year(s) at STA, what would you tell yourself on the first day of school?
Be open to change. One thing I've learned a lot about high school is that friend groups will not stay the same, which is a lot about life too. There are a lot of people that will come and go throughout your life, and the most important thing is investing in the people that really care about you.

What advice would you give to prospective students who are considering STA?
Your teachers are here to help you. Never be afraid to ask questions because they want you to succeed throughout your four years at STA. There are no stupid questions!

What is the one thing you have learned most about yourself? How has STA helped you discover that?
I’ve gotten better at juggling multiple activities at once. At first, classes, homework, extracurriculars, etc. seem stressful, but with practice, I've learned that it's not that hard to do multiple things at once. I've also learned to stay positive, even when it seems impossible. Someone's attitude can affect a whole room, so staying positive will have a good effect on others.
