Personal Counseling & Academic Support

“Educating the Whole Young Woman”

Personal counseling and support is a critical component of education. We offer a comprehensive personal counseling program that is predicated on the belief that all students are unique and dynamic individuals, capable of becoming responsive and productive adults. The essential nurturing of the body, mind and spirit along with a comprehensive curriculum allows us to educate the whole young woman. It is an ever-changing, ever-evolving commitment at STA.

Our Offerings

This program is both proactive and preventative in nature and is committed to meeting the needs of all students using age-appropriate programs and lessons.

School Counseling

  • Developmental guidance for students to promote academic, personal/social, and career development.
  • Consults with faculty, parents and administrators concerning a student’s success.
  • Provides individual and group counseling for students in need.
  • Provides a liaison with community agencies to garner services for students and families.

Accommodations

St. Teresa’s Academy understands that students have different learning needs. We offer a limited number of testing accommodations for students with mild learning differences. Students who need executive functioning support may access our Achievement Center or Math Hub.

Academic Achievement Center

The Achievement Center is open every class period, as well as both activity periods for all students. Freshman STAR Seminar is a yearlong extended orientation focusing on life at STA. Students receive guidance and practice to develope executive functioning skills with an emphasis on completing a daily planner, submitting assignments on time, communicating with teachers, preparing for tests, using school resources (Math Hub, Activity Period, peer tutors, etc.), and planning long term projects.

Math Hub

This interactive student-centered learning atmosphere is comparable to a college math resource center. Students can schedule time in the Math Hub spaces to work collaboratively on
homework and group projects, or prepare for upcoming assignments.

The Math Mentor Program develops leadership skills and the opportunity to teach and collaborate with peers. STA junior and senior Math Mentors serve as primary resources for their peers in the Math Hub.
