Scholarships for Current Students


Our endowment fund, and with the support of alumnae, families and friends of the Academy, allows St. Teresa's Academy to offer scholarships and financial aid. Application forms for scholarships are available in the front office of the M&A building.

Leadership and Spirit Scholarships

Academy Woman Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship is awarded to a sophomore or junior that the Administration believes embodies some or all of the qualities expected of an Academy Woman. These qualities include moral character, leadership, sense of responsibility, loyalty to STA, school spirit, service to others, sportsmanship, cooperation, helpfulness and ability to command respect.

Richard & Gwen Aylward Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship was started and funded by their six daughters who were all St. Teresa's Academy graduates.  In honor of their parent's commitment to St. Teresa's and the Catholic values instilled in young women, this scholarship is awarded to a student who shows deep loyalty to school, family, faith and friendship.  Preferentially need based.  Can be given to a 10th, 11th or 12th grade student.      

Joy Locke Bauers Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
Awarded to a student who has an interest in and desire to participate in the study of the arts, specifically theatre and music.

MaeJuana Bumpus Scholarship - $1,050
This scholarship, started and funded by Mrs. Bumpus' children, requires a two-page essay from a current 9th grader explaining how family has inspired her to believe in herself.

Class of 1969 Scholarship - $1,000
The recipient must demonstrate leadership and/or spirit characteristics. This scholarship will be awarded to a student with financial need.

Mary Catherine Eagan Robertson Scholarship - $1,000
The recipient must exemplify the philosophy of STA and have a generosity of spirit. Preference given to a student showing financial need (current 10th or 11th grader).

Patricia M. Fitzgerald Scholarship - $2,000
Given to a student who is involved in extracurricular activities and dedicated to St. Teresa's Academy. Preference will be given to a student showing financial need. The student does not need a specific GPA if she is striving to obtain good grades (current 9th, 10th or 11th grader).

Joseph P. Gravino Sr. and Maureen A. Gravino Memorial Scholarship Fund - $2,000
Given but not limited to students who demonstrate financial need, are part of a large family, participate in co-curricular activities, particularly golf, and who are Catholic.

Martha Head Scholarship Cooperation and School Spirit - $1,500
Given to an outstanding current 10th grader noted for loyalty, responsibility, character, service and respect.

Patricia Kelly Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
Awarded annually to a humble student, with preference toward a junior, who displays conservative Catholic values and a strong work ethic; a sincere heart with love and respect for fellow human beings; active community service and passionate participation in extra-curricular activities … all while taking life one day at a time and having the time of their life. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Preference will be given to applicants with financial need.

Colleen Mulcahy Scholarship - $1,500
This scholarship is awarded to a student (current 9th, 10th or 11th) who is in good academic standing, participates in music and, preferably, plays the piano.

McMahon Family Scholarship - $1,000
Given to a current 9th, 10th or 11th grader.

Porto Family Scholarship - $1,000
Scholarship will be awarded to an incoming junior or senior (2.5 GPA or above) showing an interest in civic, political or social justice causes. An essay must be submitted on the following topic: What social justice issue stirs your heart to action and how has your education at St. Teresa's prepared you to work for this cause in society?

Aileen Altman Richmond Scholarship - $2,000
This scholarship goes to a student with a medically documented physical disability.

Student Government Organization Scholarship - $1,000
Recipient must demonstrate leadership/service to the school and to the greater Kansas City community (current 9th, 10th, or 11th grader). Financial need not required. Annually funded.

Eileen Teahan Scholarship - $1,000
Given to a student who participates in athletics and is a good student (current 10th or 11th grader).

Betty Waters Tiehen - $1,000
This scholarship will be awarded to a student who is part of a large family, participates in extracurricular activities and submits an essay on the importance of family in her life.

Amy Thompson Scholarship - $2,000
Given to a student who exemplifies love and respect for others and the environment, and demonstrates Christian leadership/service in school and in the community (current 9th, 10th, or 11th grader).

Jeanne Collins Thompson Scholarship - $2,000
Given to a student who exemplifies love and respect for others; demonstrates Catholic leadership in school, in church or in the community.

Service Scholarships
Service to school or community required. Students applying must have financial need and have completed the financial aid form.

Nan Murphy Finucane Scholarship - $1,500
Recipient must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and is expected to give two hours weekly service to the school (current 9th, 10th and 11th graders).

Katherine Dierks Hodes Scholarship - $1,500
Recipient must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and is expected to give two hours weekly service to the school (current 9th, 10th and 11th graders).

H. J. Massman III Scholarship Fund - $2,000 each
The three recipients must be strong math or science students. They are expected to give five hours of service per week to the school through work in the science labs (current 9th, 10th and 11th graders).

Isabelle Neenan Scholarship - $3,000
Recipient must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and is expected to give two hours weekly service to the school (current 9th, 10th and 11th graders).

Jack and Dorothy Sipp Nestor Scholarships

a. Jack and Dorothy Sipp Nestor Scholarship - $1,000
Recipient must have a 2.5 cum GPA and is expected to give one-hour weekly service to the school (current 9th, 10th, 11th graders).

b. Bob and Eleanor Sipp Wilkes Scholarship - $1,000
Recipients must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and is expected to give one-hour weekly service to the school (current 9th, 10th and 11th graders).

c. Sister Dorothy Eleanor Sipp Scholarship - $1,000
Recipient must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and is expected to give one-hour weekly service to the library (current 9th, 10th and 11th graders).

Forster Powers Scholarships - $3,000 each
The nine recipients are expected to give five hours of service per week to the school through work in the library, offices or labs (current 9th, 10th and 11th graders).
